Heart shaped Cake

My first time attempting to carve a cake into a heart shaped. Get to learn from Lindy Smith herself. It was really interesting even though it didn't look anything like Lindy's -Flora lHeart cake . Well, there is always the first time to everything right?

I don't really like the recipe of this cake. It was Medeira which I find it rather heavy and dense. Also, it has to be baked inside the oven for quite some time. The cake is supposed to be densed as apposed to light, soft and fluffy; this is for the purpose of easy carving.

I will have to tweak the recipe or find another good cake recipe such as sponge cake or anything but madeira for carving in the future.

Lemon and Ginger Barley Water

Weather here is getting better, brighter and warmer. I thought of making Barley drinks for the family. This barley drink I have added Lemon and Ginger, it tasted refreshing, do drink cold.

Hope you like it

Lemon and Ginger Barley Water

2 litres water
1 cup caster sugar
150 grams pearl barley, washed and drained
2 lemons
100 grams fresh ginger, peeled and sliced

Remove the peel from the lemons, being careful not to leave any pith (the white bits) on the peel. Once this is done, juice the lemons.

Place the water and sugar into a saucepan and on a gentle heat, keep stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Add the lemon peel, ginger slices and pearl barley and allow to simmer for 1 hour before removing from the heat.

Strain to remove the barley, lemon and ginger pieces and allow to cool.

When cold add the lemon juice - taste, and if necessary add more sugar if desired. Store in the fridge and serve over ice.

My First two Tiered cake for little princes

I was very excited to make this birthday cake for my friend's daughter. This is vanilla buttermilk cake. It was my first time making tiered cakes, I had lots of fun even though I was clueless on how to assemble etc.
